What's the Hurry?

The president and his minions, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, etc. have decided that we must get everything done this year. A national healthcare plan MUST be passed THIS year! We must pass an energy plan THIS year! Everything is a crisis! The urgency is unmistakable. We cannot wait until next year.

Now wait a minute! Each of the above items have been on the congressional agenda for years and years and nobody seemed to think the world would come to an end if we did not have an energy plan. The past 8 years the amount of congressional "deliberation" was akin to watching paint dry. Year after year good ideas were brought forth and died an painful death from inattention.

So what has changed? The urgency is that these are DEMOCRAT plans. And because they are THEIR plans they must be perfect and MUST be passed immediately! Time to read the legislation and debate its merits? What's the point? It must be perfect because they are their plans.

Hearken back with me to last fall. We had a financial crisis. We did not have time for discussion or debate. The financial system was about to collapse and we must act now! Controls on how TARP funds were going to be spent? No time! Let's get that money into the hands of the financial institutions so we can avoid Armageddon! The truth of the matter is that we spent $750 billion of our money to prop up the friends of these politicians and not much else. These recipients didn't use the money like we expected them to, i.e. make more loans. They used them to eliminate or purchase the weak members of their club thereby making their little fiefdom stronger when the "crisis" passed.

The moral to the story is that it is always prudent to know what you are committing to. Take time to read the fine print. Each of the present "crises" have been out there for years and taking the time to make sure of what you are passing should be the priority!
